The Sugar Bowl is an annual college football (American football) bowl game played in New Orleans , Louisiana on January 1. Sugar Bowl is one of the former members of the Bowl Championship Series. From 1935 to 1974 the bowl game was played in the Louisiana Superdome. The sponsors for Sugar Bowl were USF&G Financial Services from 1987-1995 and Nokia cellular telephones of Finland from 1995 to the present. The Old Tulane Stadium which was demolished in 1981 was also often called as the “The Sugar Bowl". Before being the BCS the bowl game was host to the Southeastern Conference champion. The Nokia Sugar Bowl Classic which id held for two days is the largest high school track and field in Louisiana . The arena holds more than 100 boys and girls team from Louisiana and bordering areas. In 1934 New Orleans Mid-Winter Sports Association was officially planned under a constitution and statutes were written by Mr. Miller. Warren V. Miller was appointed as the president of the association. Joseph M. Cousins took the position of Vice-President, Joseph M. Cousins were named the vice president, Harry w. Fletcher became the treasurer and T. Semmes Ranlett the secretary. Presently Nokia Sugar Bowl is one of the best and triumphant athletic team among all American sports association. It also raised funds for charity, religious and educational matters. From 1935 to 1974 the game was played in the Tulane Stadium. In 1975 the Super Bowl moved to the Louisiana Superdome and was the first bowl game to be held indoors. The event will be held on April 1-2, 2005 at Tad Gormley Stadium, a venue which has played host to the 1998 U.S. Track and Field Championships and the 1992 U.S. Olympic Trials.
